Transportation

Whether you’re traveling over land (by road or rail), over water or by air, there are lots of ways to get around in Washington State, from the conventional to the anomalous: buses, trains, trolleys, monorail, ferries and high-speed clipper ferries. If you’re visiting Seattle, you can even tour the city by land and water in an amphibious “duck mobile”—a truly unique transportation experience.

A scenic and comfortable way to travel Washington by rail is the Amtrak Cascades train, which runs throughout Washington, as well as north to Vancouver, BC and south to Eugene, Oregon.

By Sea

You can’t buy a better view for the price of a ferry ticket. Ten routes carry foot passengers, bikers, and vehicles across the Puget Sound and the Straights of Juan de Fuca. Island-hop via ferry in the San Juan Islands, head to the peninsula from Seattle’s waterfront, or go for ice cream in quaint Kingston from the Edmonds ferry. By Land

Think car rentals, buses, and trains. Take the Sounder, a light rail line that goes between Seattle and Tacoma; rent cars across the state or at an airport for touring or road tripping; travel via Amtrak which goes both north-sound and east-west; or bus around urban areas to see the sights.

By Air

Leaving on a jet plane? Or seaplane. Or charter. Or prop plane. Is your destination Washington? We’ve got you covered with airports across the state. Seattle Tacoma (SeaTac) International Airport is the main point of entry and hub, but Spokane, Port Angeles and other areas have busy tarmacs (or waterways) as well.
