On the shores of Buck Bay, about 20 minutes south of Eastsound, you’ll find the hamlet of Olga, named for the wife of the first postmaster on Orcas Island.

Orcas Island Artworks, a cooperative of more than 45 island artists and craftspeople represents a rich potpourri of some of the San Juans’ finest paintings, prints, sculpture, pottery, jewelry, wood, fiber and wearable art. A loft gallery displays prints by artist and composer James Hardman, including many Orcas Island scenes. The Artworks building, originally built in 1938 as a strawberry-barreling plant, was severely damaged by fire in 2013, but was painstakingly reconstructed to match its historic past and reopened in April 2015.

The Catkin Cafe serves homemade breakfast and lunch, including baked goods, espresso, farm-fresh eggs and more. Buck Bay Shellfish Farm is just down the road, where you can buy oysters, clams, mussels and other seafood, as well as local eggs and produce. Relax and shuck an oyster and look out over the beautiful shoreline of Buck Bay.
